The Market

The Far Eastern Federal District, territory of which amounts to 36.4 % of the total area of Russia, is the largest Russian region. Agriculture is an important sector of the region’s economy, which numbers 8th among the Russian regions regarding agricultural production. Fish farming, cultivation of soybean, grain, vegetables and potatoes, as well as dairy and beef cattle breeding are of high importance. The region produces 50 % of all soya beans in the Russian Federation. The total agricultural area, including pasture and fields, amounts to 4.77 mio. ha of which 1.7 mio. ha are arable land. The Far East is of strategic character due to its proximity to China, Japan and Korea. Between 2017 and 2022 alone the state budget foresees investments to the tune of 8.4 billion Rubles in agricultural infrastructure and the modernization of farm machinery. As a result of massive governmental spending especially the milk and meat producing sector has developed rapidly in the last 2 years. Vladivostok is the administrative center of the region Primorye and is located just 50 km from the Chinese border. The „free port of Vladivostok“ offers enterprises located on its territory reduced tax rates and other preferences. The interest of producers and distributors of agricultural machinery, equipment and production means in the region is high because it receives substantial support from the Russian government due to its proximity to the rapidly developing APEC region and its strategic character.
